About Gladys Hitchen

Gladys Hitchen is an Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD), Accredited Practising Nutritionist and Credentialled Diabetes Educator (CDE) with more than 30 years of clinical experience. Born in Lima, Peru and bilingual in English and Spanish, she is passionate about delivering evidence-based, culturally responsive nutrition care.

Working closely with GPs through the Enhanced Primary Care program, Gladys supports patients living with chronic and complex conditions — including diabetes (Type 1 and Type 2), obesity and weight management, cardiovascular disease, gastrointestinal and renal conditions, and mental health. Her approach is practical, personalised and grounded in the latest nutrition science.

Gladys spent more than 20 years as a Senior Clinical Dietitian in Mental Health with the Western Sydney Local Health District, and has a particular commitment to patients from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds. She is the founder and director of the Spanish Speaking Diabetes & Heart Association of Australia and has been recognised by Fairfield City Council for her long-standing voluntary community service in diabetes and heart health.

She maintains an active commitment to continuing professional development across diabetes, gastroenterology, renal nutrition, mental health and eating disorders, ensuring her patients receive contemporary, high-quality care.
